Chocolate Detox - the project is done, the critics are still drunk from the holidays, but the promotional hype is palpable!!!

"Rick Manwiller spent 18+ years as the keyboardist/guitarist/vocalist for MCA Records' pop-rock band Dakota, who's premiere effort was 1984's Runaway (MCA 5503), co-produced by former Chicago drummer Danny Seraphine and famed top-shelf engineer Humberto Gatica.

Rick stayed with the band through the late 80's and 90's as the band released several excellent melodic rock CD's that got raves, particularly by the perennial lovers of melodic rock in the European and Japanese markets.

Chocolate Detox (Confidential Records cr-1004) is Rick's third solo effort, following 1995's Another Fine Mesozoic and 1998's well-received Living At Square One, and follows in his traditional of great songs that cover a range of musical genres. Not the 'quick burnout' commercial pap that dominates pop radio, but often clever nuggets of brilliance that tend to ripen with age into gems that bear repeated listenings.

Rick produces, engineers and performs his own tracks, along with help from several top-shelf studio players in his adopted home of Nashville, including:

> Session guitar giant Bobby Messano
> Nashville touring guitarist Rob Daniels
> Multi-multi-instrumentalist Jake Clayton
> Indie jazz/fusion guitarist Tom Hemby
> Show Dog Records' artist Mica Roberts
> Blues guitar goddess/vocalist GG Amos
> Nashville studio drummer Brian Hayes

The result is an interesting almost concept collection of several styles of pop-rock, country, jazz and heavy pop-rock that displays Rick's ability to morph convincingly between many styles of composition.

From the Love of Politics to the Politics of Love, Chocolate Detox just rox". - Tristan Fabriani
